By Ricardo Castro : Discover the Vision Before the brand

As part of Paris Fashion Week, the Ricardo Castro house presented a striking runway show in the heart of Montparnasse—an iconic district of Paris where artistic history and contemporary creation continue to intersect. The designer unveiled a vision that felt both sculptural and instinctive. The location itself became more than a setting where the  spirit of Paris matches with the creativity of Latine America on a fashion language. In collaboration with Parole Paris, the show was conceived as an immersive experience, where fashion extended beyond clothing into atmosphere, emotion, and narrative. Each look appeared as a fragment of identity—merging expressive tailoring with a strong artisanal signature—shaping the silhouette of a woman and a man who is powerful, fun and deeply contemporary.

This time Lundanaa magazine meet Ricardo Castro himself to know more about his take on fashion and to reveal more about his collection through a editorial who shows two lovers enjoying a stay at the famous Hotel du Louvre Paris and romantizing their lives wearing Ricardo Castro pieces.

Origins — The Vision Before the Brand

Lundanaa (L) :What was the defining moment that led you to launch your brand?
Ricardo Castro (RC) : The defining moment came in October 2020, as the pandemic began to ease. I realised that my purpose was to create, to design, and to contribute to the world through my art. I understood that my garments would become part of my legacy. Having survived something as difficult as migration, I felt that each piece I created could stand as a symbol of resilience—an evolving empire that would, over time, become both my driving force and a source of inspiration for others.

L : If you had to sum up the essence of your house in three words, what would they be?
RC : Elegance, irreverence, and free magic.

L : What vision are you determined to introduce into today’s fashion landscape?
RC : My vision is rooted in a more exclusive and elevated artisanal approach, while remaining accessible. I aim to transform high-fashion techniques into everyday expressions, through the disruptive language of Ricardo Castro pieces.

L : What emotion should someone feel when wearing your designs?
RC : Clients have often told me they feel empowered and distinguished when wearing my clothes. That, to me, is the essence—power and transformation.

II. Aesthetic

L : How would you define your aesthetic in one sentence?
RC : A new bohemian chic—guided by authenticity and avant-garde expression.

L : What cultural, artistic, or cinematic references shape your universe?
RC :  My universe is shaped by the 1960s—figures such as Cher, the world of the Folies Bergère in Paris, and the artistic legacies of Monet and Picasso. I also draw strong inspiration from electronic music culture.

L :  Is there a piece that encapsulates your brand entirely? Why?
RC : The Denim Colors jacket and trouser set best represents my brand. It carries my signature denim palette and prints, reflecting the artisanal identity of Ricardo Castro. It also became one of our bestsellers, resonating strongly with our clientele.

L : How do you balance artistic expression with wearability?
RC : It is about achieving a balance between everyday functionality and a distinctive design language—pieces that are wearable, yet unmistakably reflective of my vision and identity as a designer.

L : What role do craftsmanship and materials play in your process?
RC : They are fundamental. Craftsmanship is central to my value system and contributes to a more conscious approach to creation. Materials, meanwhile, ensure the timelessness that defines my work.

III. Distinction & Identity

L : In what way does your brand stand apart from other emerging labels?
RC : My brand is disruptive by nature. From original prints to unconventional cuts, each piece carries a strong visual identity. When someone wears Ricardo Castro, they embody a bold, free-spirited, and expressive attitude—bohemian in essence, yet opulent in energy.

L : What subtle detail makes your silhouettes immediately recognisable?
RC : The feminine precision in my tailoring, the signature wide-leg trousers, and the hand-printed detailing are all instantly recognisable elements of my work.

L : Who is your brand designed for?
RC : For bold, daring women—those who embody both strength and elegance. My clientele exists at the intersection of youthful energy and mature sophistication.

L : Is your brand instinct-driven or structurally constructed?
RC : It is constructed through an architectural lens, often inspired by asymmetry, geometry, and form.

L : What do you refuse to compromise on?
RC : I refuse to compromise on my creative vision or the integrity of my house. I am deeply committed to my work. However, I strongly believe in collaboration, which is essential to growth.

IV. Ambition & Legacy

L : Where do you envision your house in five years?
RC : I see the house established between Paris and Spain, with flagship stores in New York, Colombia, and Venezuela.

L : What cultural conversation does your brand aim to open?
RC : I aim to contribute to a conversation around equality in fashion—one that transcends race, religion, and background. While my brand has developed a defined aesthetic audience, I want it to remain inclusive and accessible to all.

L : If your brand were a film, what would it be?
RC :Interstellar, with a touch of Avatar, and the dramatic elegance of The Devil Wears Prada.

L : What would you like the industry to say about your house in ten years?
RC : That I built an empire grounded in values, authenticity, and courage. That my work left a lasting emotional imprint on clients, collaborators, and creatives who contributed to the journey. That I elevated the way people dress by reintroducing craftsmanship into everyday life, and that I stayed true to my identity throughout.

The DANAA Question

L : Why does the fashion world need your brand today?
RC : Because it offers pieces that transcend borders and remain unique in every city, without following trends or traditions. Each creation is designed as a timeless object—something to be treasured over time. This is, to me, the new luxury: what endures.
